Serving Adults across Georgia

You’re stuck in a cycle of pain.

Maybe you’re struggling with recent trauma

No matter what you do, you can’t break free from the effects of what’s happened. You feel so overwhelmed and alone. Everyone says you should be over it by now, to just "let it go." If you could, you would, but it won't let go of YOU. It seems that other people deal with difficult experiences and can just get past it. You wonder "why can't I?" You desperately want to find relief and feel hopeful again.

OR perhaps you had difficult or painful experiences in your childhood

You find yourself stuck repeating unhealthy patterns. You experience anxiety in relationships – you feel like you’re either too distant from them or too dependent on them. You seem to always end up with the wrong partner. You’ve thought, “Am I the problem? Is something wrong with me?” You wonder if there are deeper reasons why these issues continue to pop up and wreck your life. Maybe you’ve considered the painful moments from childhood and questioned whether they’re connected to problems you’re facing now.

Whether you’re struggling with recent events or the past, life is more difficult

You used to be able to manage every-day life, but lately it's been more of a struggle. You’re overwhelmed and exhausted. Work, the one place you felt somewhat successful, is now an added stress. Sometimes you work more to escape. Other days you only do the minimum so you can make it through the day.

Relationships are strained too. No one sees the invisible weight of pain you carry. Maybe they were supportive at first, but now most are frustrated or distant. You’ve given up trying to seek help or comfort since it doesn’t seem like anyone really understands anyways.

Like wearing sunglasses, trauma darkens the world around you…

But you want a brighter view!

There is an understandable reason why you think and feel the way you do. Trauma affects everything: the way we think, what we believe, and how we behave.

BUT … Life doesn’t have to stay this way.  Healing is possible. By digging deep to address the root of the problem, and healing from the inside out, you can change the trajectory of your life.

You CAN experience more stability.

You CAN feel confident about yourself and your relationships.

You CAN be more productive at work and feel accomplished about what you do.

You CAN change unhealthy behaviors.

You CAN experience freedom from the burden of trauma.

 How I can help …

Getting started

Knowing all this is possible, you may still feel anxious about talking about painful experiences. That’s completely understandable! Before we focus on the source of the trauma, I’ll teach you how to manage strong emotions and stabilize symptoms. Not only will this help give you a sense of control over what you’re currently experiencing, but it’ll also give you tools to manage the difficult emotions generated by working through trauma. After we’ve created some stability, I’ll help you dig deep to process the source of the pain - the specific trauma.

My Approach

My approach is very structured and collaborative. The trauma therapy model I use provides a step-by-step guide to follow, so that you feel secure in having a plan for how therapy will work. Together, we’ll not only process the painful experience, but work through the negative beliefs they created and connect them to current problematic thoughts, attitudes and behaviors.

Since digging deep takes time, we’ll set weekly appointments so we can see progress as soon as possible. Our ultimate goal will be to help you feel like you’ve put the past back in the past. Over time in therapy, you’ll experience an increased sense of safety and confidence, which will also help you have a more fulfilling relationship with yourself and others.

 Trauma Therapy can help you…

  • Identify and manage emotions

  • Process grief

  • Challenge negative beliefs about yourself and others

  • Strengthen spiritual beliefs

  • Increase confidence in life, at work, in relationships, etc.

… and anything else that’s connected to adverse experiences.

It’s time to lighten the load you carry!

FAQs related to Trauma Therapy

  • A: When many people think of trauma, they think of “the big stuff” like war, sexual abuse, plane crash, or sudden death of a loved one. But almost any event can be experienced as trauma for our brain. One definition of trauma I use is “any event from outside of your power/control/conscious choice which contradicts your identity to the point that it raises your stress to toxic levels and creates unacceptable losses.” Trauma is not necessarily determined by the event, but by the person’s experience of the event. What is experienced as traumatic by one person, may not be experienced as traumatic by another person, and vice-versa.

Examples of some of the lesser known adverse experiences/ trauma I’ve helped people work through are:

    • Emotional neglect

    • Childhood attachment issues

    • Abandonment

    • First responder experiences

    • Death of a pet

    • Parent’s Separation or Divorce

    • Addiction

    • Significant other’s pornography use

    • Narcissistic significant other

    • Unstable childhood

    • Conflict with adult children

    • Chronic or terminal illness

    • Childhood surgeries

    • Living with a parent with mental illness

  • A: The length of trauma therapy is determined by several factors. Most importantly, though, is the nature of the trauma. If you’ve experienced a single event or brief trauma, it will take less time to process than a more complicated or long-term event. My clients usually spend anywhere from six months to a year and a half in therapy with me.

  • A: Yes! I have provided trauma therapy both in person and online. While we will need to evaluate whether online therapy will be right for your specific situation, I’ve had many clients experience healing while enjoying the convenience of online therapy.
